Airline Security Staff Jobs

Airline Security Staff Duties

Airport airfield staff patrol and guard the airfields and runways. Often called ground transportation controllers, access controllers, or security guards, these staff members secure the gates and fences that provide access to the airfields.

Some security members are located at patrol gates or fixed posts around the airfields and check ID badges of entrants and determine whether automobiles, along with their drivers and passengers, are authorized to enter. Other staff patrol the airfield perimeter to make sure that there are no holes in the fences and watch for prowlers. Some security staff carry weapons and have the power of arrest.

Airline Security Staff Qualifications

Airfield security staff can be entry-level, although those with law enforcement or security guard experience have an edge. Basic requirements are a high school diploma and a desire to enter law enforcement work. Airports usually provide on-the-job training for those with limited experience. Average starting salary ranges from $12.70 to $15.00 an hour, depending on experience.
