Company Meals for Seafood Workers
Many companies offer subsidized or free meals to their employees. Usually the food is hearty and very plentiful; it is often served buffet-style.
Anyone not provided with company-subsidized room and board must do their food shopping in local grocery outlets. The prices can range from 10-40 percent higher than food prices in the Lower 48.
People working on boats almost always eat their meals on board, and while larger vessels have experienced on-board cooks to prepare all the daily meals, on smaller boats they are much more casual.
