Alaska Summer Job Descriptions
Just as there are many kinds of employers in Alaska that hire summer workers, there are many types of summer jobs that each employer needs, depending on the type and size of the business. For example, some smaller motels may not have an in-house restaurant, and so they don't hire food service personnel. On the previous pages we covered three primary types of employers:
- Alaska Wilderness Lodges, Hotels, and Resorts
- River Rafting and Adventure Travel Companies
- National Parks and Forests and Science Centers
As someone who's seeking work, whether it's to start a career, a volunteer position, or summer job, it's best to leave no stone unturned in your job search. More importantly, think carefully about whether you want to spend several months (or a lifetime!) in a remote area or whether you'd prefer to be closer to civilization.
Even though there are other types of jobs, the most prevalent summer jobs you'll find in Alaska fall into one of these five:
- Hospitality jobs
- Seasonal chefs and other cooking jobs
- Tour guide and other guide jobs
- Summer bus drivers and shuttle drivers
- Scientists and technicians
Before you know what kind of job you want to apply for, you'll want to know exactly what the job entails. So on each of these pages, JobMonkey provides you with a list of jobs for the type of industry with short job descriptions. This will give you the basic information you need to decide whether a particular job is of interest to you. Keep in mind, however, that the primary job duties of each position can vary from one employer to another. Make sure to check out specific job ads and descriptions before applying to them.
Each job description will give you a basic idea of what the job entails, as well as whether you will need previous experience to get it, and what the working environment is like. It's a great overview for helping you make a decision about what kind of job you'd like to apply to.NOTE: If you want to know about Alaska fishing jobs then go to that section of JobMonkey.
