Alaska Job Search

Finding a Job

There are two main strategies for your Alaska job search:

  1. Use searchable online job databases like JobMonkey's. These can be a great way to find a variety of Alaska jobs quickly. Government jobs are usually advertised primarily in official databases like USAJobs for federal jobs and state databases for state jobs.
  2. Research individual Alaskan companies you find interesting. It's a good idea to visit the websites of companies that interest you to find out more about them, and not all companies list their job openings in databases.

Both methods can help you find an exciting Alaska seasonal job. To broaden your options, use both. Researching employers you find through summer job boards will help you target your applications better as well.

Seasonal Jobs

Most seasonal jobs in Alaska are offered in summer, during the peak tourism season, June to August. These jobs often start in the spring shoulder season (May) and run into fall (October). Employers usually want employees who can commit to the full season.

Winter tourism jobs are much rarer, but the Alaskan fishing industry is active year-round.

When They Hire

Hiring for summer jobs tends to begin November or December, and run through early spring.

Most companies fill the majority of their positions by the end of March. To increase your potential job pool (and chances of getting a job), start sending out applications when companies begin posting jobs.

Different companies have different hiring schedules, and sometimes cancellations force last minute hiring, so if you didn't start your search until March, don't despair - there are still opportunities available.
