Psychology is a powerful tool when used properly. It can help you get a raise, find a job, earn a promotion, ace a job interview, or do just about anything else that you want. The key is to know what psychological tricks work and when you need to use them. We stumbled upon a cool video from Business Insider that looks at the power of influence and gives you the tips and tricks that will help you get exactly what you want.

Here are a few pointers that we pulled from the video that actually work quite well:

  • Make Things Mutually Beneficial
  • Give Compliments
  • Make Your Idea Seem Like It Was Someone Else’s Idea
  • Time Your Requests Right
  • Repeat Things Back To People
  • Ask For More Than You Want
  • Use People’s Names
  • Be An Active Listener
  • Be Sincere
  • Use Flattery
  • Ask For Favors When People Are Tired

Now is this guaranteed to work? No it’s not guaranteed at all. But it will certainly increase your chances to get exactly what you want, when you want it. Practice using these psychology techniques to help you influence and persuade people. Start with small tasks – like snagging the last chocolate donut or folding the laundry. As you perfect your skills and learn to read your audience, you’ll be able to ask your boss to let you telecommute, throw an office party, or get a raise. It’s amazing what you can achieve when you know how to go about it. Best of luck!
