Caterpillar has been in business for over 80 years. This company manufactures equipment used by the construction and mining industries. It also makes natural gas and diesel engines, and industrial gas turbines.

The company was founded by Benjamin Holt and Daniel Best, who joined forces in 1925. The Caterpillar Tractor Company introduced the Diesel Sixty Tractor to the buying public in 1931. By 1940, the company’s product line had expanded to include the following:

  • Elevating Graders
  • Motor Graders
  • Terracers

Caterpillar supplied tractors, graders and engines to the United States Army during World War II. The company continued to grow steadily until the recession of the early 1980s forced it to lay off workers. By 1983 Caterpillar was growing and the company now has a product line of 300 items.
