The casino industry in Las Vegas and Atlantic City has been hit hard by the economic recession. But business is booming at casinos in Pennsylvania, according to this AP article from Forbes magazine. Since Pennsylvania legalized gambling, the state has become home to seven casinos — and one more is slated for its grand opening in May. The $743 million Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem is the pet project of billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson. He says that despite the recession, these Pennsylvania gambling establishments should be able “hold their own”. If you want to learn ab...

But those numbers are not consistent across the country. Michigan has even higher rates, as do pockets of California. But the Midwest is well below the national unemployment average. So finding a job ...

I posted last week about the rise in interest in volunteerism among college grads, especially in light of the current economic crisis. You don’t have to wait until school is out to volunteer, though. According to this article from CNN, more and more college students are spending their vacations in “alternative spring break” programs. The programs, which typically cost students around $250, offer coeds the opportunity to get involved in some of today’s most pressing social issues: hunger and homelessness, disaster relief and global warming. Says one student, who spent...

Is there job security in sports? Not necessarily, according to this recent blog post from the Saints Beat. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has taken a 20 percent pay cut and the league staff has been trimmed by 15 percent because of a reeling economy. Of course, once you land a job in sports, salaries can be pretty sweet. It  may take you some time to work up to the top-earning bracket, but according to Salary.com, the average professional head coach of a minor sports team makes around $60,000 a year. Personal trainers pull in around $52,000 a year, on average. Even the average PE teacher job ...
