How To Choose The Right Job

Imagine if it was easy to choose the perfect job. There would be no headaches. You’d never dread going to work. Life would be awesome. Unfortunately, it takes a bit of trial and error before you hop, skip, and jump your way to a job and a career that you’ll love.

We found an awesome infographic (yes, we’re a sucker for infographics) on JobCluster, called How To Choose The Right Job. When we saw how they break down choosing the right job, we knew we had to share it with you.

JobCluster’s infographic starts with a cool point. There is a difference between a job and a career. A job is where you work. For example, “I work at Fairmont Hotels and Resorts in Wailea, Hawaii.” A career is what you do. For example, “I am a Social Media Expert.” When you’re in the middle of a job search are you looking for a job or a career?

Most people have lots of jobs before they settle into their career. If you’re looking for a successful career, you need to look for the following criteria when you’re hunting for a job:

  • Company Size – Think of your company as an enormous networking puzzle. Try to get to know everyone.
  • Job Title – Don’t only consider your salary. Choose jobs with titles that fit your career path. If you want to be a skier, find jobs that are related.
  • Opportunities – Make sure that you’re not stuck in a dead end job. Find a job with room for potential.
  • Flexibility – A flexible employer that  allows you to be creative is a huge bonus for your career.
  • People – Try to surround yourself with people you respect, admire, and emulate. It will drive you to accomplish more.
  • Environment – A fun, happy, productive work environment is more productive than a boring office cubicle without any personality.
  • Management – You have to like who you are working for. They are always there and some day you’ll need something from them.

If you can dial in these 7 criteria, it will be easy to choose the right job. Plus, your next job will be setting your career up for success. Be sure to take advantage of JobMonkey’s vast resources to help you learn more about different employers, jobs, and careers. Good luck!
