With millions of laid-off Americans looking for work, the trucking industry is seeing a spike in applications. One small town, New York Terminal Manager says that he has seen applications go from zero to 10 in the last few months. The good news is that there are actually jobs to be had in over road trucking. If you are thinking about taking your show on the road, start by reading JobMonkey’s section on truck driving jobs.

I am a recent truck school graduate, and because of the unemployment throughout the country it seems like everyone and thier brother is going to trucking school. In the 18wk course I was in to aquire a class cdl, our school become over capacity, overcrowded, students lost driving time and experience, and our odds of finding employment decreased as number of students increased. The only people benefiting from this job application spike is the trucking school owners collecting the grant money, expanding thier schools, and overcrowding the trucking applicant pool. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a spike in trucking accidents due to the lack of driving experience at some of these “overloaded” truking schools!
