What I’m Reading This Week

Another Friday, another week zoomed by.  The financial markets are still in a whacky freefall and unemployment numbers are creeping toward record highs.  The news is rather bleak for you job searchers out there, but there is some hope on the horizon, too.

If you’re having trouble finding the silver lining, check out some of these links. Hopefully you’ll find some encouragement and inspiration, so you can hit the pavement running next Monday morning.

In the meantime have a great weekend!  I know I will — it’s a perfect fall day here, cool but not cold and not a cloud in the sky.  I hope it is sunny where you are, too!

Without further adieu, here’s what I’m reading this weekend:

Is Any Job Worth a Bad Boss? @ 45 Things.  Writer Anita Bruzzese is a nationally syndicated columnist and award-winning journalist who writes about workplace issues. Her blog is a great source of information … and levity!

Some Recommended Career Resources for College Students and Young Professionals @ Lindsey Pollak’s blog.  Lindsey is an author and professional speaker, offering career advice to the General Y workforce.  A few weeks ago, Lindsey also published a great collection of tips for Wall Street employees worried about their jobs.

Three Tips for Making Career Choices in Volatile Times is more good advice on how to make it through these, well, volatile times.

Be Happy @ Career Goddess offers some nice suggestions for injecting a little positivity into your life (via The Happiness Project, an initiative of Gretchen Rubin.)

Apropos to yesterday’s post on college internships, I found this little article on how internships are more necessary for success than ever before. It’s a good read.

Also, if you are serious about a career in green business, I came across this blog called the Green Collar Blog that you might want to check out.  It has great daily posts with job listings and job fairs.

Career Hub has a post this week about the job searching in this tough economic environment. Well, the post links to podcast about the same subject, so you can do a little listening while you’re hitting the pavement!

And finally, I’ve got another Penelope Trunk post for you this week (I do so love her blog). Earlier this week she wrote about how to find meaningful work.  I know most of us just want a job with meaningful pay, but her advice is spot on for realizing some long-term happiness, too.

Happy reading!  And have a great weekend!
