HENDERSON, NEVADA - CASINO JOBSRecently named one of America's best cities to live in, Henderson is a suburb of Las Vegas. Originally created in the 1940s as housing for defense workers, Henderson has stayed on to emerge as a gaming satellite to Las Vegas, with twenty casinos.
Ironically, Nevada was the first state in the Union to outlaw gaming, but it changed its mind in 1931, when gambling was legalized to raise money for public schools. The boom began in 1946, when mobster Bugsy Siegel opened the Flamingo in Las Vegas. The rest is history. As a suburb of Las Vegas, life in Henderson includes all the amenities of that glamorous, twenty-four hour city. Henderson is also one of Nevada's principal
industrial cities. The city, like much of Nevada's urban areas, is known for its bargain-priced lodging and low-cost meals available at the casinos, making it easy for the newcomer to subsist while looking for permanent housing and a job. The area supports nearby Nellis Air Force Base, a thriving arts community, and excellent museums. The Clark County Heritage Museum exhibits turn-of-the-century artifacts, restored historic homes, and remains
from a nearby ghost town. For those with a sweet tooth, the city even has its own chocolate factory, with self-guided tours available. At only 1,940 feet in elevation, Henderson, like all the cities found along the southern tip of Nevada, is flat and dry. The climate is described as semi-arid with the average precipitation registering a meager 4.5" annually. But sun worshippers couldn't be happier. It's never too hot or too cold laying next to a pool.
Being on the outskirts of Las Vegas also means you're closer to the natural and manmade wonders of Nevada, including the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and Lake Mead, which offers 85 waters on the banks of Boulder Beach in the summer. Recreational opportunities include golfing, swimming, boating, and hiking. Tourism in the area is booming, reports the Henderson Chamber of Commerce, so all bets are on that this growing city is going to be the next
boomtown in the state. Henderson Nevada Casinos
