Largest U.S. Trucking Companies

If it were not for the major trucking companies in the U.S., many of the products and shipping services that we enjoy would not be available to us.

We would not have some of our brand name clothes or some of the foods we enjoy. We would also not have some of the shipping services available to us that transport our vehicles.

The world would literally be at a standstill because our economy relies on the transport of goods just as much as the consumer relies on those goods being in their home.

Some of the trucking companies that take care of transport tasks are companies that some of us are familiar with. We see their trucks on the highways all of the time, but we really don't know a lot about them. Below is a little about the major trucking companies in the U.S.:

  • ABF Freight System, Inc. - ABF is a company that offers a wide range of shipping solutions for their clients. They also have services that help individuals move to another state. They also have containers that can ship up to 1,500 pounds of freight. This can include a small car, a motorcycle, an ATV or another vehicle that meets their sizing requirements.

  • Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. - Old Dominion takes care of the shipping of goods from warehouses to furniture stores. They do ship a lot of items that are considered large, but will also ship such items as hazardous materials and items that are considered to be "overlength." They will ship light truck loads to various places around the country.

  • Averitt Express, Inc. - Averitt Express is another company that is well-known to furniture companies. It is because of their ability to ship large items and do it in a timely fashion. Companies employ Averitt to ship all kinds of products to various places all over the country.

  • American Freight Company - This company will ship less than a truckload, a truckload, and also has flatbed trucking. They will take care of both commercial and residential shipping and will ship anything from cars and trucks to motorcycles and ATVs.

  • J.B. Hunt - J.B. Hunt is a well-known trucking company that ships truckloads of freight all over North America. They use both trailers and containers for their shipping tasks and have a large number of locations all over the country.

Each one of these five major trucking companies possesses their own unique qualities. Some offer light truck loads while others do not. However, they all claim to have the best customer service that a customer can expect and they promise on-time delivery.

If you're looking for an auto shipping job, start with these major companies. You also may want to contact specific vehicle manufacturers. Companies like Ford, Chevrolet, and so forth often employ their own drivers instead of working with outside companies. The job opportunities really are endless in this industry as long as you're willing to look for them!
