Why do you call it "JobMonkey"?
When we started planning our site, we brainstormed many ideas for names.
At first, we tried a number of names that would describe the site and its contents accurately, but we found this impossible to do. The name would have had to be something like:
"ReallyCoolJobsForSummerOrFullTime-ThatAllowForLotsOfTravelAndAdventure.com."
You can imagine our dilemma. So we decided to go with a name that would express the fun and adventure of these jobs--what we needed was a symbol! A mascot! So we picked a monkey because, well, we just think monkeys are a hoot! They're fun and they're kind of exotic, which represents the travel part. And so, JobMonkey was born! (Ask yourself, "Why do they call it Amazon.com?")
How is JobMonkey different from other online 'job boards'?
JobMonkey helps match jobseekers with really "cool" summer, seasonal and adventure jobs in the U.S. and abroad. Examples of these jobs include: 1) Bartender at a beach resort in the Caribbean 2) Hiking guide in Yosemite 3) Camp counselor on Orcas Island 4) Conversational English teacher in Prague. JobMonkey does not put a major focus on full-time, career employment options like other standard Internet job boards. Instead, we fill a void by providing a recruiting network for the thousands of employers who hire a large percentage of seasonal staff and for those jobseekers looking for rewarding jobs.
Who can use JobMonkey?
- Anybody. It's most useful to people who are interested in a summer, seasonal, or adventure type job. But anyone can use JobMonkey to search for cool jobs.
- Any employer from the non-traditional industries that JobMonkey features from any region of any country - interested in recruiting for their vacant positions.
By becoming a member, your profile and resume will already be in our database and all you have to do is enter "send my profile" for any job in which you are interested and your profile information will be automatically sent to the employer.
How many employers can I send my application to at a time?
You can send your profile to as many as you like however you must submit your profile to each employer individually. This way it ensures to the employer that you are not just blanketing your resume to all employers, but are actually taking the time to read each job description. This gives the employers a better-qualified candidate.
How will employers get in touch with me?
Employers can either email you or call you. So, make sure and include both your email address and your phone number in your application.
How long will you keep my profile information?
As long as you keep updating it on a regular basis - forever. It will drop after 2 years if it has not been updated.
What is JobMonkey's policy about removing resumes if jobseekers no longer want to be in the database?
Job seekers have two options if they no longer want their profile to be active in JobMonkey's database.
Deactivation. If you find a job and don't want employers to actively be searching on your profile for job opportunities for you anymore, you can 'deactivate' your account; this means that although employers won't be able to see your profile and resume, your profile will still be stored in our database so that you don't have to re-enter your information again. Just go to your profile and got to Hide Profile and choose "Yes." In order to re-activate your account, all you have to do is log-on and choose "No" for Hide Profile. That's it!
Deletion. If you're not completely happy with our service or, for whatever reason, decide that you want to completely delete your profile information from our system, all you have to do is send an e-mail to JMhelp2@JobMonkey.com with the subject heading "DELETE ME" and in the body of your email, YOU MUST include the first and last name that the account is under so that we can find it in our database and delete it.
In most cases people choose to simply de-activate their profile rather than delete it in case they change their minds or begin looking for a new internship/job.
What if I forget my username or password?
If you forget your password, go to the Login page and click on the "forgot your password" option and we will contact you via email to provide it to you.
How do I know you will keep my contact information confidential and will not sell it to a marketing company?
We put a very high priority on respecting people's privacy (please see our Privacy Policy). When you register to use JobMonkey, we save your email address in order to communicate with you in the future. Also, when you fill out a survey or other feedback form, we store this information in our records. From time to time, we may make this information available to other reputable organizations whose products or services we think might interest you. If you wish, however, you can easily have your name taken off our email list by sending a message to AdminStaff2@JobMonkey.com and typing in the word "Remove" in the subject line.
Can I use JobMonkey if I'm not a U.S. citizen?
Yes, you are completely welcome to use our service. Most industries we cover hire U.S. citizens, and many hire people of different nationalities. Theme parks, dude ranches, and summer camps in the U.S. have a hard time filling their jobs with Americans. So they recruit young people from abroad. The cruise industry hires people of all nationalities. Please be aware that JobMonkey does not assist with any working papers or visas at this time.
How can I be removed from your mailing list?
To "unsubscribe" from our Membership list, send an email to AdminStaff2@JobMonkey.com with the word "Unsubscribe" in the Subject line.
How do I report factual errors I found in JobMonkey?

How do I report a technical problem?
To report a technical problem, you can email us at itStaff@JobMonkey.com
I seem to be having technical difficulties with loading JobMonkey
There are several possibilities that could cause upload problems:
- The JobMonkey site works best when viewed with Internet Explorer 5.0 (or later) and newer versions of Firefox. To download the Internet Explorer browser, link here to access the most recent version available for downloading. If you do not have Internet Explorer or Firefox you may experience difficulty in accessing many of the features on our site. We apologize for any inconvenience that may cause for you.
- A browser error has occurred. In this case, simply close the browser, reopen it, and try again.
- It might be a memory problem with your web page cache. Your browser allows you to delete temporary Internet files. Access the browser Help features for instructions (it's simple).
- Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) might be having problems with a server. Try accessing other pages, and if the problem persists contact your ISP.
- Occasionally the server generating our pages goes down for maintenance or because of technical problems. Be patient. We resolve these problems as soon as we possibly can, often within minutes.
Why do I sometimes get the message "you have timed out"?
Sometimes communication between computers and servers on the Internet can be a little dicey! You'll get the "timed out" message if something gets miscommunicated between your computer and another computer along the way to JobMonkey. You can also try holding down the "Shift" key and while holding that, then choose "Refresh" on your browser.
What can I do to increase the speed with which I access your site?
The following suggestions may help to enhance the performance of our services:
- Check your Internet access speed. Dial-up modems are less common now, but some still use them. If you're on dial-up, then accessing the site will take longer. Those using cable modems, DSL or some other form of high speed Internet access won't have any problems with JobMonkey.
- Turn your graphics off - an option most browsers provide. This will significantly reduce the download time of graphics-rich pages by displaying only their text. (Most browsers allow you to defer image loading until after the text has displayed. While this doesn't improve overall speed, it does offer the text while images download.) Generally, you will find that we try to minimize the size of our graphics to reduce download time.
- Clear your disk and memory caches. Also, check your memory cache setting to ensure it's no greater than 25 percent of your computer's total RAM.
- Close any applications you are not using to increase the amount of RAM available to your browser.
What are "Cookies" and do you use them on your site?
First of all, we do use cookies on JobMonkey in our Discussion Forums and in Membership Registration. These cookies are tools enabling us to tailor our content to individual users. They contain no personal information but they do contain your web site settings such as nickname and date of last access. If you want to get technical, cookies are pieces of information that a web site transfers to an individual's hard drive for record-keeping purposes. By showing how and when guests use the site, cookies help us see which areas are popular and which are not. Many improvements to the site are based on such data as total number of visitors and pages viewed. Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies. However, you can set yours to refuse cookies or to alert you when a site is sending cookies. If you choose to reject cookies, though, it is possible that some parts of the site will not function at optimum levels.
How do I bookmark or make JobMonkey a favorites page?
Most Web browsers allow you to create bookmarks or favorites that allow you to easily return to a site you have visited on the Web. Once you have added a bookmark or favorite, a preferred page is only a click away. Look at the instructions below under the name of the browser you use for details:
Microsoft Internet Explorer
The instructions that follow are for the Windows version of Internet Explorer. If you have any more questions about using your browser, please consult your software's help manual or your software's technical support.
To add an Internet Explorer Favorite, simply go to the Web page you'd like to add to your Favorites list. Once the page has loaded, go to the Favorites pull-down menu at the top of your screen, and select Add To Favorites. You will then see the Add To Favorites window. The title of the page you've selected will automatically appear in the text field at the bottom of the window. To add the page you've selected simply click Add.
To access the Favorite site, go back to Internet Explorer's Favorites pull-down menu at the top of your screen. You'll notice that a new selection has been added. Clicking on the new item will return you to the Web page you just selected as a Favorite - in this case, JobMonkey's home page.
Firefox
To add a Firefox Favorite, simply go to the Web page you'd like to add to your bookmarks list. Once the page has loaded, go to the BOOKMARKS pull-down menu at the top of your screen, and select 'Bookmark this Page.' This will then open the 'Add Bookmark' window. The title of the page you've selected will automatically appear in the 'NAME:' text field. To save the page to your general bookmarks folder, simply click okay once the 'Add Bookmark' window opens. You can choose a different folder within your BOOKMARKS list to save the page you're wishing to bookmark. To do this, you'll want to click on the 'down-arrow' at the right of the 'Create In:' drop-down menu. This will show you the various folders created in the bookmkarks list. Simply choose the appropriate folder you wish to save your page to and then click 'OK.'
America Online
The instructions that follow are for the Windows version of AOL 3.0 and above. If you have any more questions about using your browser, please consult your software's help manual or your software's technical support.
AOL makes it ridiculously easy to add a Favorites page. Once you're in a site you want to return to at a later date, look at the bar at the top of the window for that page. There should be a little red heart icon at the top, right corner (if you can't see the icon, reduce the size of the window until you can see it). Click on the heart icon, and, while holding the mouse button down, drag the icon to your Favorites folder (which has a heart on it, too). The site is now saved to your Favorites page. To retrieve it, simply click on the Favorites folder and select the name of the site you wish to revisit from the pulldown menu.
How can I change my screen resolution to make site viewing better?
Screen resolution affects the size of the desktop. More icons, word-processing lines, spreadsheet cells, and larger graphics in graphic developing suites are displayed on the desktop using a higher resolution. The four standard PC resolutions are VGA, Super VGA, and XGA. Each resolution is measured in pixels, which are picture elements of the screen. VGA resolution displays 640 pixels across the screen and 480 pixels down. Super VGA displays 800x600 resolution while XGA displays 1024x768 and 1280x1024 pixels. The most common resolution was, until recently, 800x600 pixels. Now it's 1024x768. Seeing more on the desktop increases productivity by eliminating some scrolling and switching back and forth between windows. Ultimately, adjusting screen resolution could make one's eyes happier.
Here is a procedure for changing the screen resolution when using Window's Vista operating system:
START BY...
Click on the 'Start' menu at the bottom left hand corner of your desktop screen. Select 'Control Panel' and double-click the 'Personalization' icon. Find the 'Display Settings' link at the bottome of this window and click on it. This will open a seperate window for you. You'll see the 'Slide Bar' for adjusting your screen resolution toward the bottom of the window. Just slide this left-or-right to adjust the resolution.
If you have questions regarding what would be the best resolution for you monitor, click on the 'How Do I Get the Best Display?' link just underneath the Resolution slide bar. Here, you'll get information from Microsoft about what settings work best for different monitors and how to adjust your resolution to fit your needs.
