CAREER ADVISER: Can You Handle a 2nd Job?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
by Derek Lennon
Successfully working a second job is a time consuming challenge. It may be necessary to work for financial security, resume building, or skill development, but it may not be wise to stretch your time and energy too thin. If there were more than 24 hours in a day, we would all have second jobs. But there aren't.
Choosing to work a second job is a big decision. Weigh the pros and cons. It is hard to juggle different roles, manage your time, not become exhausted, and ensure you do quality work at all of your jobs. Don't forget to arrange your schedule so yourself, your family, your friends, and your dog.
Sometimes finding a second job is mandatory. If that is the case try to find a job that you are passionate about. That way your time spent at the second job will not be as stressful because you can consume yourself in what you love. Also try to find a job that is flexible - no mandatory hours, strict deadlines, or conflicting schedules.
You will have to be motivated and dedicated to be successful. There are lots of great second jobs out there. You can find some on JobMonkeyJobs.com. But be sure that you can manage the added responsibility. The extra paycheck will be nice, but not at the expense of your sanity and health.

SPOTLIGHT: Modeling Gigs
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We see models everyday on television, in magazines, on the Internet, on the billboard - they are everywhere. Have you ever wondered how to start your modeling career?
Big companies and small boutiques utilize models to help highlight their product. Every company that needs a model is looking for a specific look. And you might just be the person they are looking for. There are all types of models:
- Body Models
- Child Models
- Swimsuit Models
- Plus Size Models
- Hair Models
- Male Models
- Photo Models
- And more...
Before you choose this career path, consider the pros and cons of the modeling industry. If you want to land a job as a model, take modeling classes, contact modeling agents, attend casting calls, learn about photo shoots, watch modeling TV shows, work with photographers, and be motivated to have your face (or hands or hair) plastered all over the place.
After you've made the decision to be a model, you need to develop your portfolio so that you can turn your lucky break into a long-lasting professional career.

ADVICE SPOT: Odd Job Interview Questions
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heading to a job interview can be daunting. You never know what they are going to ask, so you must be prepared for just about anything.
Many interview questions are odd, mind-boggling, situational, off-the-wall, or downright stumping. Usually employers want to see your reaction, evaluate how you think, or see if you've done your research. Sometimes there are correct answers, other times any response will suffice.
Below are a handful of odd questions found on the Chicago Tribune:
- How would you get an elephant into a refrigerator? - Horizon Group Properties
- What is 37 times 37? - Jane Street Capital
- Pepsi or Coke? - United Health Group
- Does life fascinate you? - Ernst & Young
- How would you cure world hunger? - Amazon.com
- Just entertain me for five minutes? I'm not going to talk. - Acosta
- If Germans were the tallest people in the world, how would you prove it? - Hewlett-Packard
- Name five uses of a stapler without staple pins? - EvaluServe
- How many planes are currently flying over Kansas? - Best Buy
How would you answer those? If you face any of these questions, don't get flustered. Take a deep breath. Stay composed. Answer honestly.
Odd interview questions really do lurk out there. Are you prepared for your next job interview?
