Non Profit Jobs in the Arts

Many young artists may find that as they enter the workforce, they might be interested in the administration of arts education and appreciation programs in addition to continuing with their own creative pursuits.

The Arts Industry and Non Profit Industry Oftentimes Intertwine with Eachother

Students from visual art, theater and music can all enter the job market looking to combine their academic, administrative and artistic skills in the nonprofit world as managers and program providers.

Nonprofit arts organizations run the gamut from museums to opera houses to educational arts organizations. That means that there are many, many opportunities to enter the nonprofit arts world in a number of ways. If you love numbers and also love to sing, finance at the opera might be a good fit for you! That way, you’ll be able to spend time around something you are passionate about, while still using some of your hard skills.

Where to find nonprofit arts jobs (online job search for the arts)

While the usual sites that list nonprofit jobs also contain leads for nonprofit arts jobs (like Idealist, Philanthropy News Digest and Common Good Careers), there are also a handful of sites that cater specifically to those with a passion for the arts.

ArtSearch.us

The listings are not nearly as extensive as some of the other sites, but it is a great place to start off your search.

Jobs slightly outside of New York City (in the tri-state area) are also posted.

Americans for the Arts Job Bank
Americans for the Arts is a national arts organization that offers a subscription job search service (don’t worry, it’s free) for arts jobs across the country. You can post your resume, save searches and create “job agents” that will allow you to search for multiple types of jobs and have them delivered to your inbox. The American for the Arts Job Bank Career Resources section also has tons of information about arts degrees and health insurance for people in the arts.

Even though arts organizations are notoriously under funded, there are still a great number of opportunities out there for motivated, creative and energetic people who are looking for ways to promote the arts in the community.
