You might have a hint of what kind of setting you'd like to work in from one of your clinical rotations, through a nurse whom you know personally, or from a classmate or clinical instructor.

If you'd be interested in getting a better idea about what different types of nurses in different types of settings do, try conducting a few informational interviews.

Contact someone who has a job you are interested in and ask them if you can interview them about what their functions and responsibilities are.

It may feel uncomfortable to call a complete stranger and ask them for a half an hour or 45 minutes of their time. But remember that people like to talk about themselves, and when people have particularly challenging jobs, they really like to talk about what they do.
