Resort Security Jobs
Security personnel work day or night for all sorts of recreational companies to protect the property of the hotel as well as the physical safety of guests and other employees.
Duties of an officer may range from simple night watchman to crowd control during shows or parades.
The specific duties of the job will vary depending on the type of resort but there are some general job requirements and responsibilities that you can expect to find in any security position. Most security officials are expected to oversee any of the following: the safety of the resort or hotel premise, security entrances including doors, windows, and gates, the arrival and departure of employees and visitors, circulating around the public to help prevent or to remove disturbances, warn visitors or employees of dangerous and illegal actions, inspect security systems and equipment, adjust security systems, drive provided vehicles around the premise or transport people when necessary, answer alarms and investigate problems on the property, answer telephones and relay messages, take tickets, review monitors, act appropriately in the case of an emergency, inspect baggage at events, and call the police or other emergency personnel when needed.
Of course depending on the type of resort, types of security will differ. For example, at a casino resort, a large portion of the security is dedicated to the casino while at lodges or summer beach resorts, gate security officers and hotel premise security officers are most common.
Security Job Requirements
Some hotels and resorts are willing to train security officers however, it goes without saying that the highest paying jobs go to those with experience. Most of the job listings for resort security do ask for some type of previous experience but again, these requirements vary. Other job requirements include being physically able to work a 4-8 hour shift, being able to lift 60 pounds, to have CPR and emergency medical training, to have a valid driver's license, pass a drug screening test and be over 21 years of age. Depending on the resort, some will require a security officer certification to be sure that their officers know how to respond in the best possible way. Others will train onsite.
Other Job Details
Security officers can expect to work both day and night shifts although officers are usually hired for one or the other.
Also, while a great deal of resort work is seasonal; resort security officers are usually hired on as full-time employees and receive benefits like 401K, medical, dental, and paid vacations.
Both men and women perform ably in these jobs and there is no discrimination between the two sexes for security positions. Uniforms are almost always required so that personnel can be easily identified in the case of an emergency. Those officers with previous security or law enforcement job experience are hired at the highest rates and at the best pay.
Security Officer Pay
Typical pay is around $13 an hour. Some positions are salaried ranging from $30,000 - $45,000 a year with benefits.
