Alpine Valley Area Profile

Alpine Valley Resort is located near both East Troy and Lake Geneva in glacier-carved southeastern Wisconsin. The area offers deluxe condos and quaint Victorian bed-and-breakfasts, gourmet restaurants and all-night diners, and hilly forests descending to beautiful spring-fed Lake Geneva.

Winter Activities

Although Wisconsin has a variety of elevations, the slopes are much lower than those back East and out West. However, the sometimes icy conditions and moguls of Alpine Valley and other regional hills can challenge powder-pampered experts. January and February temperatures can be frigid, but there are plenty of blue skies and mild days (forty to fifty degrees) to enjoy.

Lake Geneva and East Troy are a winter person's paradise, because there is plenty to do without the hassle of thousands of summer tourists. Ice-fishing, ice -boating, skating, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing enthusiasts will not be disappointed.

Summer Activities

Lake Geneva is quintessential summer country. The spring-fed, crystal-clear lake is one of the deepest in the area and its twenty-six miles of shore are lined with beautiful small towns. If you enjoy water, you can rent boats, waverunners, jet skis, sailboats, windsurfers, and rafts near the beaches (try Zingle Boats at the Riviera in Lake Geneva). For land lovers, the area is ideal for in-line skating and biking. Golfing in the area is excellent; try the Palmer/Player/Trevino-designed PGA course or one of the well-groomed public courses.

Alpine Valley Music Theater concerts start in the spring and run through early fall. Recent entertainment has included Aerosmith, Van Halen, the Eagles, and the Grateful Dead. Along the waterfront of Lake Michigan in Milwaukee (just forty-five minutes away from Lake Geneva), Summerfest runs from June to early July and concerts continue at the Marcus Amphitheater throughout the summer (with recent acts including Spin Doctors, Soul Asylum, Allman Brothers, and Screaming Trees). Chicago's world-famous Taste and Blues Fest is held in summer and is only an hour and a half away. For some true local color, don't miss the area's county fairs in August and September.

Après-ski

After dark, there are numerous opportunities to relax and rest up for the next day. To replenish your energy, great area restaurants include Popeye's, Kirsch's, Anthony's, and The Next Door Pub. For live music and a drink, try Hogs and Kisses, Champs, Foley's and all the local resorts. Summer wouldn't be complete without a stop at Chuck's, a native hang-out on the lake in Fontana. The Shopper is a free local paper that lists all the entertainment options for Walworth County, so pick up one from any store in the area.

Transportation

Alpine Valley is five miles from East Troy in southeast Wisconsin. Milwaukee is the closest major city, thirty-five miles from the resort. Air service to Alpine Valley is through Mitchell Field in Milwaukee. Major airlines such as United, American, Continental, and Northwest fly to Mitchell. From Milwaukee take Highway 43 to the East Troy exit, take a left on Highway 120 and take a right on Highway D to the Alpine Valley gatehouse. In addition, Amtrak stops in Milwaukee.

Lake Geneva does have a trolley and several taxis, but transportation is fairly limited. It's a good idea to have your own mode of transportation.

Housing

Your best bet for finding housing is to call local rental agencies and to check regional newspapers. There is a wide variety of accommodations ranging from absolute luxury to low-scale rentals, so give yourself some time to decide.

Alpine Valley Ski Resort Employment

Because the area is populated with tourists throughout the year, especially during the summer, there are plenty of employment opportunities. The hotels, restaurants, stores, and shops usually hire extra staff to handle the influx of customers.
