Bogus Basin is not widely known among destination ski resorts; it does, however, offer serious skiers excellent night-skiing opportunities and an escape from the crowded conditions of the mega-resorts. The slopes offer spectacular views of tall forests and expansive valleys, and at night the city of Boise comes alive in a flicker of lights and activity.

The ski area's name stems from the 1860s gold-rush days, when a bogus mining claim made it evident that counterfeit gold was being manufactured in the valley from iron pyrite.

Winter Activities

Bogus Basin's 2,600 acres and forty-six trails sport a variety of terrain for all types of skiers. The runs are marked 22 percent beginner, 45 percent advanced, and 33 percent expert. The area also has one of the largest ski schools in the Northwest with 130 instructors on staff. There are approximately twenty kilometers of cross-country trails and a complete Nordic facility as well. Snowboarders are welcome at Bogus Basin.

Summer Activities

Swimming, hiking the Nordic trails, fishing in mountain lakes and streams, boating, and many more alpine pastimes are readily available in this area. Contact the Visitors Bureau for details.

Apr�s-ski

There are only two restaurants near the mountain, and limited lodging at the base. Skiers can relax with a drink at the Firewater Saloon and Restaurant in Pioneer Lodge, or at the T-Bar in the Bogus Creek Lodge. Otherwise, thrill-seekers must travel sixteen miles to Boise for fun.

Transportation

Getting to Bogus Basin is quite easy. As the only major population center in the area, Boise has a modern, mid-sized airport served by most major airlines. Bogus itself is only sixteen miles away, but the small, winding road usually takes about thirty minutes to navigate. No public transportation is available between Boise and Bogus, but many locals find it's easy to find a ride by hitchhiking at the base of the mountain near Berg's Ski Shop. Housing

Employees in this area must find their own apartments or other accommodations. Subscribe to the papers and contact local realtors for real estate listings. Because there is no housing on the mountain, most seasonal workers live in Boise, a thirty-minute drive from the resort.

Bogus Basin Employment

Read the following listing and apply for work at the resort by the end of October. Local papers also list area employment opportunities. Students at nearby Boise State University provide a number of evening and weekend workers, so the search for a part-time job could be competitive.
