INSTRUCTOR INDUSTRY
OVERVIEW |
|
While certification is helpful when applying for an instructor job, it's not required. In general, most ski and snowboard schools throughout the U.S. and Canada have their own teaching requirements; these are just as vital in the competition for jobs as being certified.
Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) is the organization for ski school instruction certification in the United States. Seventy-five percent of PSIA members have been teaching for more than five years, and 30 percent for more than fifteen years. Through its certification process, PSIA provides a measure of uniformity nationwide. Within the U.S. there are nine regional divisions of PSIA. While each region
has its own certification committee and designated examiners that may differ in their approaches to examinations, the PSIA national office has made a concerted effort over the past several years to standardize the certification process.
