Jay Peak Ski Area Profile

This large mountain near the Canadian border is known as a skier's resort and offers healthy snowfalls, great glade skiing, and a continental flavor. About half the skiers come from nearby Montreal, and Jay is also very popular with the knowledgeable Vermont crowd. The nearby towns are quite small and much of the lodging and entertainment occurs right at the mountain. The small towns of Jay, Montgomery, Westfield, and North Troy are all three to seven miles away and offer additional lodging and activities.

Winter Activities

If you're looking for great snow, Jay Peak is the premier spot in the East. Jay Peak boasts the highest average annual snowfall in the region with an average of 315 inches per year, and the season usually lasts into early May. Jay Peak offers a European-style tram to the summit, giving skiers some of the longest vertical in Vermont at 2,153 feet. Snowboarders can enjoy the deep powder and the half-pipe and terrain course, and cross-country ski trails crisscross the area. Jay Peak also offers snowmobile rides and horseback riding if you get tired of skiing.

Summer Activities

Golfing, fly-fishing, hiking, and tennis are some of the more popular summertime activities. In March the locals celebrate spring with Springfest, a popular festival with live bands and activities.

Après-ski

Nightlife is pretty limited because of the size of Jay Peak, but the International Restaurant at the base of the hill provides live entertainment on weekends. Most towns near Jay Peak are small and quiet; the Belfry Restaurant in Montgomery is a popular hangout with the local crowd.

Transportation

Jay Peak is located in northern Vermont just ten miles south of the Canadian border. Air service is available to Burlington International Airport, eighty-five miles southwest of the resort. From Burlington, take Route 89 north and Route 105 east into Jay Peak. Bostonians can make the trip by car in three and a half hours on Route 93.

Housing

Very few apartment rentals are available in the area, so most employees try to team up and rent houses and condos in nearby Jay, Montgomery, Westfield, and North Troy.
