Loveland Ski Area Profile

Loveland is the closest ski area to Denver and the fastest growing in the state. With nine lifts, 836 acres of ski terrain, and sixty runs, this mountain has a wide range of options for skiers of all abilities. Because of its sky-high elevation—the ski area sits at about 12,000 feet—the season lasts from mid-October to mid-May. Located within a few hours' drive of several other ski resorts, Loveland ranks among the most affordable and accessible in Colorado.

Winter Activities

Loveland caters to the front range skiier, with half its runs designed for intermediate downhillers. Beginners and experts evenly split the difference. April brings The Derby, the largest amateur ski race in North America, and there is another race for those not so competitive. Snowboarders are allowed on the mountain.

Summer Activities

Though the resort itself is closed in summer, visitors to the area will find plenty to do. Surrounded by national forests, Loveland is close to a multitude of outdoor possibilites, including mountain biking, climbing, hiking, and fishing.

Après-ski

Most off-duty employees head to the towns in Clear Creek and Summit counties for fun when the lifts shut down. Popular spots include Charity's in Frisco, Pug Ryans in Breckenridge, Tommy Knockers microbrewery in Idaho Springs, and the Red Ram in Georgetown. Many towns in the area also have recreation centers.

Transportation

One of the best aspects of skiing at Loveland is its proximity to Denver. Urban dwellers as well as out-of-towners arrive via air are just an hour from the resort via Interstate 70. An employee shuttle bus is provided for workers living in Clear Creek County. Others should be able to catch a ride to the resort from the many nearby towns.

Housing

Loveland doesn't provide housing for its employees, but there are so many towns in the area that workers should have no trouble finding a house or apartment to share with friends. Most workers live in Summit County, twelve miles to the west, or Clear Creek County, twelve miles to the east.

Loveland Ski Resort Employment

Loveland hires 450 workers for the winter season, and most prospective employees arrive in town between August and October. Other jobs can be found at the many bars and restaurants in the towns of Summit and Clear Creek counties.
