Area Profile

The most popular ski area in New Hampshire is a cluster of ski resorts just off Interstate 93 within forty-five minutes of each other.

These resorts meet the needs of all ability levels. The largest of the three is Waterville, which Snow Country magazine calls one of the top ten cross-country ski resorts in North America. Loon is excellent for intermediate-level skiing and Bretton Woods is ideal for beginner and intermediate skiers. Situated in the picturesque White Mountain National Forest, these resorts offer outdoor activities for all seasons. The self-contained area provides ample opportunities to relax and exercise. It is the perfect escape from the stresses of work and urban life.

Winter Activities

Waterville Valley is known for exceptional Nordic skiing and has over 105 kilometers of groomed and wilderness trails. For alpine skiers, Mt. Tecumseh has a vertical drop of 2,020 feet with fifty-three downhill trails and thirteen lifts. The longest trail is three miles. Ninety-six percent of the trails are covered by snowmaking, ensuring top-quality skiing conditions. The views of the White Mountain range from the slopes are breathtaking. Bretton Woods has a vertical drop of 1,500 feet with thirty trails. The longest run is two miles. Loon Mountain has a vertical drop of 2,100 feet with twenty-two miles of trails; here , the longest run is three miles.

Snowboarding is permitted at Loon and Waterville and both Mount Tecumseh and Snow's Mountain have half-pipes. The cross-country skiing opportunities are excellent. Call the resorts for details on trails. If you like indoor activities you can take advantage of the indoor sports center where you can play tennis, hockey, and racquetball, as well as swim and jog.

Summer Activities

Waterville Valley is a summertime paradise. From tennis to golf, hiking to biking, fishing, and boating, or horseback riding, there is something to do every minute of the day. In addition to active pursuits, this is an ideal setting for picnics, photography, and natural exploration.

Après-ski

Starving after a long day of exercise? Look no further. The Waterville Valley has a wide variety of international cuisine and casual takeout places. If you have the energy there are several places to hear live music, or you can dance all night at Legends 1291 (a mellow place). There are also special events and holiday festivals scheduled throughout the ski season. At the concert pavilion in the town square, you can enjoy live music on Saturdays from July 6 through Labor Day.

Transportation

Two airports make New Hampshire's resorts easily accessible to travelers.

Boston's Logan Airport is 130 miles away and is served by major airlines. Manchester Airport is seventy miles south and is served by airlines such as Delta Business Express, USAir, United, Continental, and Northwest Airlink. Ground travel: from Boston take I-93 North, and from Manchester use I-293 to I-93 North. Ground travel arrangements can be provided by calling Waterville Valley Central Reservations, (800) 468-2553.

Driving is recommended, although some transportation is provided by the employer. Call (603) 236-8371 or your local travel agent for other arrangements.

Housing

Check the classified sections or local realtors for current housing information. Prices vary depending on location.

Employment

The following listings will give you an idea of employment opportunities in the New Hampshire area. Subscribing to the local paper is also a good idea. Waterville Valley holds its job fair on the second Saturday in October and usually hires over 300 people for the ski season.
