Area Profile

Wintergreen is one of the most popular day-trip ski destinations in the Southeast, located only forty-three miles from Charlottesville, Virginia. It's an 11,000-acre resort high in Virginia's beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Bordering on the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, Wintergreen hosts skiers from as far away as Washington, DC, 145 miles from the resort. Because of its unique setting nestled between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shanandoah Valley, Wintergreen is one of the few resorts in the East where visitors can ski in the morning and golf in the afternoon.

Winter Activities

Wintergreen is well known for its ski school. Over 50,000 lessons are taught each season to skiers at a wide range of skill levels. With seventeen slopes, five lifts, and 1,000 vertical feet of ski territory, Wintergreen is a popular destination for those in the Southeast. Winter activities off the slopes tend to be of the indoor variety: the resort features hot tubs, exercise rooms, and a pool.

Summer Activities

Wintergreen is the home of two champion golf courses and was recently ranked one of the top tennis resorts in the country, with twenty-five courts. Mountain biking, fishing, and hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains are popular summer activities. The resort also boasts a spa and an equestrian center.

Après-ski

The resort itself has five restaurants and a number of lounges featuring live entertainment. The city of Charlottesville, forty-three miles away, is the home of the University of Virginia, and feels much more like a college town than a southern city.

Transportation

Wintergreen is forty-three miles southwest of Charlottesville via I-64 and Routes 635 and 151. Charlottesville-Albermarle Airport is served by most major airlines. Another option is to fly into Richmond International, 113 miles from Wintergreen via I-64.

There is a shuttle system to get employees living in the county to and from work.

Housing

Most employees live in the area of Nelson County surrounding the resort. Students at the University of Virginia who get jobs at Wintergreen usually continue living in Charlottesville and make the commute to the mountain.

Employment at Wintergreen

Because Wintergreen is a four-season resort, plenty of year-round jobs are available. The deadline for winter employment applications is December 1.
