Banking in Thailand

Traveler's checks can be exchanged at larger bank branches in each city. There is a service charge of approximately US$.20 per check, so larger denominations will accrue lower service charges.
The rates do not vary much from place to place, but late-night or 24-hour exchange counters will charge a bit more.

More than 1,500 bank branches in Thailand now offer ATM services for their customers. You may use these ATMs by opening an account in Thailand. Thai Farmers Bank and Bangkok Bank, which has an office in Los Angeles, have the most ATMs. You can also use your debit card from your country to withdraw cash directly from your account. VISA debit cards can be used at Thai Farmers Bank ATMs, and MasterCard debit cards work at Bangkok Bank ATMs. Some shops take credit cards, but most do not. Since there are occasional glitches with the electronic ATM service, it is best to bring traveler's checks as a back-up. The following North American banks also operate in Thailand:
