SHORT-TERM ACCOMMODATIONS IN INDONESIA |
|
Hostels Official youth hostels don't really exist in Indonesia, but some places in the
more populated areas will give discounts to IYH members. In tourist spots like Jalan Jaksa in Jakarta and Lake Toba on Sumatra, you'll find plenty of accommodations going by the name of "hostel," though they aren't associated with the international organization. These places cater to Westerners and are quite popular and reasonably priced. Losmen Often small and family-run, losmen are the mainstay of the budget traveler. Concentrated around bus and train stations as well as tourist districts, losmen are great places to hook up with travelers, hunt down teaching jobs, and get advice about traveling in Indonesia. Most losmen have shared bathrooms and are very affordable.
