Clearing Customs in Eastern Europe

Provided that you use common sense and observe the above suggestions on what to leave at home, you shouldn't have any trouble gaining entry into any of the countries of Eastern Europe.

Beyond getting your passport checked at the border, you might not come in contact with any customs agents at all. Compared to their Western counterparts, most Eastern European countries don't have the resources to support large staffs of customs agents or border patrols.

If, by chance, you do encounter a customs official just be courteous and patient. You might get asked what your purpose is in entering the country or how long you plan to stay. Just say that you are traveling around and that you might stay for a month or two. More than likely, you won't have to say much at all.
