Golf Course Beverage Cart Attendant Jobs

Have you ever played a round of golf? The blazing sun will quickly sap your energy leaving you thirsty and hungry before you hit the back nine. The best thing is a cool refreshing beverage and it’s the job of the golf course beverage cart attendant to serve you.

A golf course beverage cart attendant, commonly referred to as the beer cart driver, delivers drinks and snacks to golfers. The beer cart driver drives around the course in a specially equipped golf cart with refrigerators, coolers, and storage to keep cool drinks and snacks.

Golf Beverage Cart Attendant

Beverage cart attendants are typically girls and the beverage of choice for golfers is often beer – thus the job title beer cart. Nearly every golf course across the country has multiple beer cart positions available.

The beer cart driver approaches golfers on the course. There is often one beer cart for the front nine and one for the back nine. Beer cart drivers don’t need to be an expert golfer or even know how to play golf. They do need to know when to approach golfers and when not to. For example, it’s a bad idea to try to sell beer mid swing. They must be familiar with the course and be able to field questions like – where are bathrooms? They should tune up on golf lingo. Know the word FORE! before a stray golf ball hits.

Beer cart drivers work as long as the course is open. Each day carts need to be stocked. Filling coolers with ice, charging golf carts, and recording inventory must happen every day. The bulk of the day is spent driving around the course serving the golfers. Usually golfers will flag the beer cart down, but all golfers should be checked on regularly throughout the day. Learn the regular golfers and be sure that every golfer has a thirst-quenching beverage at all times. At the end of the day, the carts need to be unloaded, inventory kept, and sales rung up.

There are several requirements for the job. Beer cart drivers always dress according to golf course dress code. Typical attire may be golf or polo shirt, khaki short, golf shoes, hat, and sunglasses. They also must be of the right age as dictated by state law – 18 to hand out beer, 21 to make mix drinks. To get this job, applicants must also be able to drive a golf cart.

Apply at golf courses to find job openings. The clubhouse restaurant is a good place to ask about jobs. The employer is looking for polite, friendly and trustworthy people who can make more sales and bring more money back at the end of the day.

Golf is an expensive sport and that means the tips are quite good. Most beer cart drivers are paid minimum wage plus tips. Tips will depend on where you work – the more prestigious the club, the wealthier the golfers, and the better the tips. Some beer cart drivers can make $250 a day in tips alone. Others won’t make that in a week. As an added bonus, beer cart drivers usually golf for free.

Driving the beer cart is a super job. It’s a customer service, sales driven gig. The fresh air and a nice smile with prompt service will hopefully get you a tip. Beer cart driving is really just like being an outdoor waitress on wheels.
