Don’t worry if you find the job search overwhelming. You’re not alone. Searching for a job is definitely a stressful activity, but you don’t have much choice. You need a job and the job search is the only way that you are going to become gainfully employed. Identify what makes you stressed and the job search process will be much easier.

Take a deep breath. It’s time to take back control of your job search. Here are a few common reasons why the job search is overwhelming:

  • You Don’t Know Where To Begin – Sometimes you just need to start doing something to get yourself going. Research types of jobs, fine tune your resume, build your brand, or contact your network. All of these things will help you get started.
  • You’re Not Organized – When there’s a lot going on, it’s essential to stay organized. Write down what you do on a daily basis so you know what you’ve done and what you need to do. Get a planner or calendar to keep track of important dates and projects.
  • You Need To Prioritize – It’s easy to put 100% of your energy into the job search, but you also need to take a break every once in a while. Treat the job search like a 9 to 5 job. This will keep you focused on finding a job, while giving you time to live your life.
  • You Don’t Have A Plan – Wandering aimlessly will not set you up for success. Make a plan and stick to it. Determine what type of job you want to find, where it will be located, and what companies you want to work for. Set goals and aim to achieve them in a timely fashion.
  • You’re Getting Rejected – Rejection is part of the game. It happens to everyone. Find out why you didn’t get the job and learn how to be better the next time around. You can’t let a simple rejection hold you back from greatness.
  • You Need To Stop Comparing Yourself To Others – You are you and not someone else. When you compare yourself to others, you set yourself up for unrealistic expectations. Focus on yourself and your job search.
  • You Need To Learn To Say No – When you’re starting to feel desperate, it’s easy to say “yes” to everyone. Sometimes saying “no” will be the best thing you ever do.
  • You Need To Surround Yourself With Positive People – Negativity is contagious. If the people around you are a negative, then find other people to hang out with. It can brighten up your atmosphere, help you think positively, and change your outlook on life.

During the job search, the most important thing in the world is finding a job. A job will lead to your next paycheck and a bit of stability in your life.
