Dietary Aid Jobs

A Dietary Aid works in food service and assists a dietary manager and cook with day-to-day duties. These jobs can be found in the dietary departments of hospitals, nursing homes, and healthcare facilities.

Some of the work conducted by a Dietary Aid can be similar to that of a Dietetic Technician, Registered who works in food service.

Many Dietary Aid jobs require a high school diploma. A college education is often not required however, other certifications may be necessary. Often local government certifications in food safety and sanitation are required for work in food service. These certifications are sometimes offered through on-the-job training after an individual is hired.

The day-to-day duties of a Dietary Aid include food preparation for patient meal service, kitchen cleaning and washing dishes, loading food carts, meal delivery and dining room set-up. Food service operations are active around the clock and on weekends, therefore the work shifts of Dietary Aids can vary and can often include early morning, late evening and weekend hours.

Salary Information

Dietary Aids typically make an hourly rate of $7.78 to $9.68. Average salaries are around $14,000 per year.
