Market Yourself
Before sending resumes to the companies listed in our program, check to make sure that their specialties and hiring practices coincide with your interests. If you're looking for career-oriented work, apply to companies that hire year-round guides.
If you are only interested in summer seasonal employment, research the companies that offer it by using the information included in our Job Center and make every attempt to apply well before the season begins. Hiring for seasonal or summer work is usually done well in advance. Check into application deadlines when you contact these tour companies. Try to remain as flexible as possible in your choice of work location, because it will help your chances.
Because these jobs allow so much freedom and independence, the successful escort must approach his or her job search in a highly professional manner. Any experiences you have in which you worked unsupervised should be noted in your resume. Much of what an escort does from day to day involves making sure that everything on the tour itinerary goes smoothly and that the passengers are enjoying themselves. Experienced escorts often compare what they do to being a teacher, a babysitter, a stand-up comic, and a general do-all problem-solver. So, if you have related job experience, let the hiring company know.
