One country heavily involved in natural energy development, especially in the bioenergy and wind energy sectors, is Denmark. The Energy Information Administration estimated that although the US ranks first in the world in wind power capacity and Denmark ranks only ninth, Denmark generates an estimated 20 percent of its electricity from wind power, while the US is not expected to generate as much as 20 percent of its electricity from wind power until the year 2030. Brazil is another country with significant amounts of development in natural energy production, notably in the bioenergy field. Brazil began implementation of its bioenergy program in the 1970s, when oil embargoes forced the country to develop alternate forms of energy. Today an estimated 20 percent of Brazil’s energy is derived from bioenergy, which is mostly produced from its enormous sugarcane crops. Germany has also established itself as a front-runner in the race to develop and implement alternative energy sources. The German government has heavily subsidized solar energy, resulting in an enormous growth in the number of businesses and homeowners who chose to install solar panels.

Today, Germany has the largest amount of solar energy in the world.

Questions to Ask Yourself about Energy Jobs Abroad

When considering working abroad in any field, there are many considerations to take into account. First of all, are there language requirements that you will have to fulfill in order to work in another country? Your odds at finding a job abroad will be much improved if you speak the language of the country that you hope to work in. If you speak a foreign language, consider targeting countries where that language is spoken when you start your job hunt. Don’t speak a foreign language? Don’t despair! In some cases, foreign companies or US companies with bases in foreign countries will hire you even if you don’t speak the local language.

Another important aspect to consider when looking at natural energy jobs abroad is the paperwork. Working abroad can be a truly wonderful experience but it does require a lot of prep work first. Will you be able to obtain a visa and working papers in the country where you would like to work? Be sure to inquire with companies to see if they are willing to sponsor you for a visa. The process usually goes much more quickly if you have a large company sponsoring you and helping with the paperwork.
