NHL Jobs and Internships

The NHL (National Hockey League) has been in existence since 1917, and was founded in Montreal, Quebec.

Originally made up of four professional ice hockey teams, the League has experienced a number of expansions and contractions over the years. It is now made up of 30 teams. Twenty-four of the NHL franchises are located in the United States, and the remaining six teams are in Canada. The League's head office is located in New York City, and professional hockey is popular with sports fans of all ages.

Working for the NHL

The NHL hires people for positions at NHL clubs or League offices in several job categories, including:

NHL Internships

Along with permanent positions, NHL clubs offer various unpaid internship opportunities to university students. Interns are given college credit in return for their work, and are responsible for transportation costs of they are invited for a personal interview or are accepted into the internship program at an NHL club city. How to Apply for a Job or Internship at the National Hockey League

The NHL accepts applications for employment online. Prospective employees or interns can see current openings by visiting the NHL Hockey Jobs page on the League web site. Links on the page take the site visitor to information about current job fairs. An "Open" flag on the page indicates there are positions currently available in that job category, or a list of all open positions can be seen.

Internship opportunities are also posted in this section of the NHL web site.

The "Future Notification" function is used when job seekers wish to be notified by e-mail when a job matching their skills and experience comes available with the NHL. Clicking on the job title link brings up a detailed job description and the qualifications necessary to be considered for the position. A list of screening questions applicants will be asked when applying is also included. Candidates are asked to register for an online account before applying for jobs with the NHL.
