Deer Valley Ski Area Profile

Although Deer Valley is close to the Park City ski area, it warrants its own description because of its personality and clientele. Comfortable elegance saturates the atmosphere and people flock to Deer Valley to be pampered and served. Most of the guests are upscale business people; therefore, the resort promotes service as its number-one asset and the valley is filled with excellent restaurants and luxury lodging.

Winter Activities

Skiers at Deer Valley enjoy a 2,200-foot vertical drop, sixty-seven trails, and three bowl areas. Some of the special touches pampering Deer Valley skiers are complimentary ski valets (who unload skis from cars), padded chairlifts, and tissue dispensers at each lift. There are three peaks at Deer Valley: Flagstaff Mountain, Bald Mountain, and Bald Eagle Mountain. Twenty-five to 40 percent of the mountain is groomed every night, upholding Deer Valley's reputation as one of the best-groomed areas in the world. For those who demand a little more challenge from their ski day, Deer Valley offers a map dedicated to off-piste trails for advanced and expert skiers. This map features bowls, glade skiing, moguls, powder, and steep and narrow chutes.

Cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, sledding, and ice skating are popular activities in this area. For the sportsperson, excellent wildlife watching and hunting opportunities are just out the door; contact the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation, (801) 538-7220, for more information.

Summer Activities

Hiking, backpacking, hunting, boating, fishing, and horseback riding in the Uinta Wilderness Area and the Wasatch National Forest are just a few ways to enjoy the spectacular beauty of this area. The lifts serve hikers and mountain bikers mid-June through September. Special Utah Symphony performances are sponsored by Deer Valley in July, and there's a Bluegrass Festival in September. Contact the Park City Chamber of Commerce for more information.

Transportation

Deer Valley is one of the most accessible ski areas from anywhere in the country. It is located thirty-seven miles from Salt Lake City International Airport, which is served by over 300 daily flights offered by major airlines such as Delta, American, America West, Continental, Southwest, Northwest, Transworld, and United. At the airport, there is a choice between rental cars, taxis, and shuttle services. The bus system in and around town, Park City Transit, is free to the public.

Complimentary city bus service runs through the town of Park City, which includes Deer Valley, and provides transportation to other ski areas. Public transportation also runs the thirty miles from Salt Lake City to Deer Valley. Many of the ski lodges are ski-in/ski-out.

Deer Valley Ski Employment

Because of Deer Valley's commitment to service for its guests, it keeps a large staff and is a major employer. The resort hires more than Park City and Park West combined for seasonal employment. Over 1,000 (150 full-time) employees are hired each ski season to accommodate the needs of the visitors and maintain the sterling reputation of the area. Visit Deer Valley Ski Resort Jobs Website.
