Holiday Valley Area Profile

Located one mile outside the village of Ellicottville in southwestern New York, Holiday Valley Resort is the largest ski area in New York state. Recently, readers of Snow Country magazine rated Holiday Valley as their third favorite resort in the mid-Atlantic area.

Winter Activities

Holiday Valley boasts twelve lifts, including a quad that can move 2,400 skiers to the top every hour.

Night skiing is very popular here, and 95 percent of the skiable terrain can be covered with snowmaking equipment. The season runs 120 days, from early December to April, and snowboarding has become quite popular since a half-pipe was added a couple of years ago.

Snowmobiling is the most popular non-skiing activity in the area, and cross-country skiing is also popular, though there are no groomed trails nearby.

Summer Activities

Holiday Valley slows down considerably in the summer, but the resort does operate an eighteen-hole golf course, driving range, and three swimming pools. Lifts are not operated for mountain bikers, but they are allowed on the mountain, which has become so popular that it now hosts a six-week series of races every year.

Après-ski

The village of Ellicottville is the home of most late-night carousing, and has a number of bars and restaurants. Popular taverns include the Gin Mill, Balloons, and Madigans. Restaurants include the Silver Fox, The Barn, and Tips Up.

Transportation

Holiday Valley is located one mile from the village of Ellicottville in the southwest corner of New York. Buffalo International Airport is sixty miles north of the resort via Route 219 and is served by most major airlines. The drive from Buffalo takes about one hour and fifteen minutes.

Housing

Most employees live in Ellicottville or Great Valley, about four miles away. Apartment rentals are available as well as shared housing.

Holiday Valley Ski Resort Employment

Holiday Valley is easily the largest employer in the area, and a small private ski resort, Holimont, also employs quite a few people. Restaurants, bars, and hotels in Ellicottville provide most other jobs.
