Mount Snow Ski Area Profile

Personal attention is the focus of this small Vermont resort area. The ski village consists of a handful of lodges, condos, inns, and bed-and-breakfasts set in the Green Mountain National Forest. The atmosphere is down-home and folksy with a New England flair. Mount Snow is the closest Vermont ski resort to New York and Boston. The closest town is West Dover, just three miles from the base of the mountain, and Wilmington is six miles past West Dover. Both towns are quaint and charming with various shops, boutiques, and restaurants.

Winter Activities

Mt. Snow is actually two separate mountains: Mt. Snow and the smaller and more family-oriented Haystack. Mt. Snow moves many skiers through eighty-four trails and a total of 1,900 vertical feet of skiing terrain. All levels are represented at Mount Snow, with an emphasis on intermediate skiing. Haystack offers 1,400 vertical feet and is preferred by many locals because of its lower lift ticket prices and varied terrain.

The skiing atmosphere is relaxed at both places, and skiers of every level will have a chance to boost their egos on the gentle slopes. There are also opportunities to cross-country ski around Mt. Snow.

Snowboard competitions highlight Mt. Snow's winter events calendar, as does the Torchlight Parade on December 30. During Vermont Products Day in March guests have a chance to sample specialty products of Vermont such as cheese, maple syrup, and assorted arts and crafts.

Summer Activities

Mount Snow is open for summer mountain biking, camping, hiking, and horseback riding. The Bromley alpine slide cascades visitors down the mountain at top speed, and nearby waterways provide great opportunities to fish and swim. In addition, there is a multitude of concerts, festivals, and events to entertain visitors.

Après-ski

Restaurants range from very expensive, jacket-required gourmet to casual deli-style take out. The Inn at Sawmill Farm is one of the best in fine dining, and Poncho's Wreck has great Mexican fare and seafood without stratospheric prices.

Transportation

A limited number of expensive taxis service the area, and there are no shuttles or buses directly to Mount Snow, so providing your own transportation is highly recommended.

Housing

Employees must make their own arrangements for local housing. Contact Mt. Snow Ski Resort for a list of possible housing and roommates for seasonal employees. Also contact realtors for the area and check the classified section of the paper.

Mount Snow Ski Area Employment

Mount Snow usually suffers a shortage of employees; therefore, applications are accepted year-round. Read the following listing and follow employment procedures accordingly.
