Sundance Ski Area Profile

Sundance styles itself as more of a year-round mountain retreat than a ski resort; skiing just happens to be one of the many amenities offered here. Located in the Wasatch Mountains just east of Provo and Orem, Sundance is perhaps most well known for the Sundance Film Festival held each January and sponsored by Sundance's famous owner, Robert Redford. The village at Sundance has a quiet atmosphere and emphasizes its natural surroundings rather than glitzy nightlife.

Winter Activities

Sundance offers an "intimate" skiing experience. The ski area limits its use to 1,500 skiers per day on its two double and two triple chairs, and next year a new quad chair will make the already short lift lines virtually nonexistent. The terrain provides lots of open and tree-lined skiing, plenty of powder, and a 2,150-foot vertical drop. The area is also popular with cross-country skiers, and offers mountaineering and ice skating. Snowboards are not allowed at Sundance.

Summer Activities

Within a few hours' drive from several state parks and national forests, as well as Timpanogos Cave National Monument, Sundance is a great base for hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, fishing, and scenic drives. Bridal Veil Falls, home of the world's steepest tram, is only about eight miles from the resort. Horseback riding and fly-fishing are popular right around the village and surrounding mountains, and the lodge is a popular spot for group events.

Apr�s-ski

Sundance is a quiet village and offers some great restaurants but not a lot of late-night revelry.

Movies and theatre are the most popular evening events. The Friday and Saturday film series features selections from Robert Redford's private film collection, and the Sundance Film Festival takes place during January at Sundance, Park City, and other nearby ski towns.

Transportation

Sundance is only fifty miles from Provo, Utah, via Highway 89. Salt Lake City lies twenty-four miles away via I-80. Salt Lake International Airport is served by all major airlines.

Housing

Sundance doesn't provide housing for employees. Most workers live in nearby Provo or Orem, where housing is fairly inexpensive.

Sundance Ski Resort Employment
