Airline Gate Agent Jobs
Airline Gate Agent Duties
Gate agents work at the boarding gates of airports where passengers board their flights and arriving planes drop off passengers.
Shifts vary with the particular airline's flight schedule, and, like ticket agents, gate agents must wear uniforms and put on a pleasant face for the public. Agents have a variety of duties depending on the size of the airline, including making boarding announcements, assigning seats, handling standby passengers, monitoring jetway doors during deplaning and enplaning, and assisting in customer service duties.
Airline Gate Agent Qualifications
Gate agents should have a high school diploma or equivalent, a neat appearance, and the ability to work under pressure, as they most often deal with passengers who have booked delayed or canceled flights. Although agents are based in the airport terminals, they are hired directly by the airlines. Average starting pay: $7.50 to $10 per hour.
