Old Dominion Freight Lines is based in Thomasville, North Carolina and was founded in 1934 in Richmond, Virginia.

The company has over 48,000 points of service including all major Canadian points. Old Dominion has 207 service centers and nearly 13,000 employees. The company has 5,159 tractors and uses a combination of pup trailers and vans of 32-53 feet, as well as relying on 28 ft. trailers for its extensive line-haul operations. Offering a wide range of regional, national and international transportation solutions, Old Dominion is one of the country's largest transporters of industrial, commercial and retail products. Drivers looking to make their career with Old Dominion Freight Lines can choose from a wide array of career choices including:

Pickup and Delivery Driver - Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid CDL with HazMat and Doubles/ Triples endorsements
  • Must have excellent DMV record
  • Must have one year experience with tractor-trailer driving or be a graduate of a State Certified driving school, or passed the Old
  • Dominion Truck Driver Training program (ODTDT)
  • Must be able to operate mini-computer as required
  • Must have good communications skills - especially oral
  • Must pass the orientation/training program
  • Must be 22 years of age or over
  • Must pass a DOT drug test

Old Dominion drivers are paid weekly through direct deposit if desired. The company offers all employees a retirement plan including 401(K). Drivers receive deadhead pay, stop off pay and vacation pay throughout the year. Other benefits include, 90% no-touch cargo loads, offered home time, base plate and permits, dental, vision and life insurance plans. Drivers generally drive 2,500 to 2,750 miles per week.

Owner/Operator Driver - Qualifications

  • Minimum age 22
  • Must have CDL and proper endorsements including Double or Triples and HazMat
  • Must be a graduate or have high school equivalency or 5 years verifiable accident-free driving record
  • Minimum one year experience in tractor/semi/twin trailer operation or completion of truck driving school course
  • Drivers may also take the Old Dominion Truck Driver Training program in order to qualify
  • Must take company medical exam and pass Department of Transportation (DOT) drug tests

Line Haul Driver - Qualifications

  • Must have valid CDL with HazMat and Triples endorsement
  • Must have one year tractor trailer experience or have graduated from a
  • State Certified truck driving school or passed the ODTDT
  • Should have good knowledge of vehicle control and safety systems
  • Must be ready for around-the-clock trips to deliver/pickup freight and to be away from home for long periods of time
  • Must pass physical fitness test to satisfaction of company
  • Must pass a DOT drug test
  • Must pass the Old Dominion orientation/training program given by company driver/trainer
  • Must be 22 years of age or over
