New Mexico Casinos

The Gaming Control Act legalized gambling in casinos in New Mexico in 1997. These facilities are regulated by the New Mexico Gaming Control Board, which issues licenses to tribes in this state who wish to open casinos.Tribal gaming is a large part of this state’s heritage, and most tribes have banded together to form the New Mexico Indian Gambling Association, an organization that lobbies for casino owners’ rights.

In New Mexico, you must be 21 years old to gamble in a casino and 18 to play bingo. Since casinos were legalized, over a dozen have opened in this state, providing gamblers with facilities ranging from casual to extremely fancy. Many also offer youth centers and family entertainment for those not old enough to gamble, so there is a little something to everyone in New Mexico.
